Drum, Don’t Dwell
An inspiring short documentary
Drum, Don’t Dwell tells the story of Jim, a serious drummer in his youth who quit playing after being diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's. After struggling intensely with his illness over a number of years -- going through a divorce, turning to drugs and alcohol, and becoming distant from his family -- Jim finds renewed energy in his life as he begins to play again. Turning his passion and skill for drumming into teaching, Jim now volunteers in a retirement home working with folks affected by the same disease, as well as with underprivileged youths who may not otherwise have the opportunity to play. These activities allow him to exercise his mind, stay mobile, and interact with the world around him, all extremely beneficial in combating his Parkinson's symptoms.
